Manchester City are reportedly preparing for a potential managerial transition, with Enzo Maresca emerging as the leading candidate to replace Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola’s future at the Etihad Stadium has come under increasing scrutiny in recent months, amid growing speculation that the Spaniard could step down from his role at the end of the current season.
The former FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has yet to make a final decision regarding his long-term plans, leaving City’s hierarchy in a position where contingency planning has become necessary.
While the club continues to wait for clarity from Guardiola, reports indicate that Maresca has been identified as the preferred option should a change become inevitable.
The development was disclosed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who stated that Manchester City are prepared to allow Guardiola take full control of the timing and nature of his decision.
Romano also revealed that Maresca has remained the club’s top choice since January, despite ongoing speculation linking former City captain Vincent Kompany with the position.
According to him, the Premier League champions hold Maresca in high regard and believe he aligns with the club’s football philosophy and long-term vision.
Maresca, who has previously worked within City’s coaching structure, is seen as a manager capable of maintaining continuity in style and approach, particularly if Guardiola opts to bring his highly successful spell at the club to an end.
With uncertainty still surrounding Guardiola’s next move, attention will remain on developments at the Etihad, as City weigh their options while respecting the manager’s legacy and influence.
