The Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, has been confirmed as the venue for the upcoming international friendly matches between Nigeria’s Super Falcons and their counterparts from Cape Verde.
The two nations will face each other in a double header scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 and Saturday, April 18, with both fixtures expected to draw significant attention as preparations intensify ahead of major continental engagements.
The friendlies form part of both teams’ build up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where they will be aiming to make strong impressions. For Nigeria, the matches present another opportunity to fine tune tactics, assess squad depth and strengthen team chemistry as they prepare to compete for continental honours once again.
The Super Falcons head into the encounter with a strong record against Cape Verde, following their previous meetings during the 2023 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. On that occasion, Nigeria secured a hard fought 2 1 victory away from home in the first leg before returning to dominate the reverse fixture with a comprehensive 5 0 win.
With that history in mind, expectations will be high for another solid performance from the African champions, although the friendlies are expected to serve more as a platform for experimentation and tactical adjustments rather than purely results driven contests.
Preparations for the fixtures are set to begin with the team expected to open camp in Abuja later this weekend. The coaching crew will use the period to evaluate players, integrate new options into the squad and reinforce key tactical approaches ahead of the tournament.
Beyond results, the matches are also seen as crucial in building momentum and ensuring the team remains competitive at the highest level, as Nigeria continues its pursuit of sustained dominance in women’s football on the continent.
