Nigerian international Ademola Lookman has praised Atlético Madrid for their impressive performance in their UEFA Champions League clash against Barcelona, describing the result as a clear reflection of the team’s unity and hard work.
Atlético Madrid, under the guidance of Diego Simeone, delivered a composed and disciplined display to defeat Barcelona 2-0 at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night. The match took a decisive turn late in the first half when Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí was sent off, reducing the home side to ten men and giving Atlético a clear edge going into the break.
Despite the advantage, Atlético remained focused and clinical in the second half. Their persistence paid off as Julián Álvarez opened the scoring before Alexander Sørloth added another to seal a comfortable victory for the visitors.
Reacting after the game, Lookman highlighted the importance of teamwork and defensive discipline, especially in such a difficult away fixture.
“It was a good result, the performance of the team, especially not to concede here,” he said. “It shows the work everyone’s been doing and the togetherness.”
He stressed that the clean sheet against a strong Barcelona side underlined the team’s organization and commitment, adding that every player played a role in achieving the result.
Lookman concluded by noting that victories like this are built on unity and collective effort, which continue to drive Atlético Madrid’s success in Europe.
