Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle is set to attend the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture between Ikorodu City and Wikki Tourists as part of his ongoing player assessment ahead of the Unity Cup tournament.
The matchday 36 encounter will take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, on Tuesday, 5 May. The game was initially scheduled for Sunday, 3 May, but was rescheduled due to the Lagos State President Federation Cup final.
Chelle’s presence at the stadium is aimed at closely monitoring potential players who could earn a call-up to the national team setup. The Malian coach has indicated his willingness to broaden his squad options by giving opportunities to standout performers from the domestic league.
One of the key players expected to be observed is Ikorodu City’s prolific striker Joseph Arumala, who currently leads the NPFL scoring chart. His performances this season have made him one of the most talked-about players in the league.
The scouting mission is part of Chelle’s preparation for the upcoming Unity Cup, where Nigeria is scheduled to face the Warriors of Zimbabwe in the semi-final on Tuesday, 26 May.
The NPFL clash therefore carries added significance, as several players will have the chance to impress the national team coach and strengthen their chances of international selection.
