England manager Thomas Tuchel has insisted that Jude Bellingham is not guaranteed a place in the Three Lions’ starting lineup at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that competition for places within the squad has never been stronger.
Bellingham has been one of England’s standout performers in recent years and played a vital role during the team’s Euro 2024 campaign. However, since Tuchel took over as head coach in January 2025, the Real Madrid midfielder has faced a more challenging battle for regular starts.
The 22-year-old has started only a handful of matches under the German tactician, with injuries and fitness concerns limiting his involvement during parts of the qualification campaign. Despite his reputation as one of the world’s most talented midfielders, Tuchel made it clear that every player must fight for their position.
Speaking ahead of the World Cup, the England boss emphasized that the squad is packed with quality options and no individual can take a starting berth for granted.
