Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens will have their work cut out for them after being placed in Group B of the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone B qualifiers.
The six-time NWFL Premiership champions will go head-to-head with Ghana’s Police Ladies, Association de la Kozah from Togo, and Sam Nelly FC of Benin Republic. The tournament, hosted by Côte d’Ivoire, kicks off on August 23.
Group A is made up of Ivorian heavyweights ASEC Mimosas, AS Garde of Niger, and USFA from Burkina Faso.
Led by coach Whyte Ogbonda, Bayelsa Queens booked their ticket to the competition after dominating the 2025 NWFL Super Six in Ikenne, Ogun State. They finished top with 10 points, claiming the ₦10 million champions’ prize. Nasarawa Amazons came second with 9 points to secure ₦6 million, while Edo Queens placed third on 8 points and pocketed ₦4 million. Rivers Angels and Remo Stars Ladies both earned ₦1.5 million, while Naija Ratels, who failed to pick up a point, also received ₦1.5 million.
The Yenagoa-based side made history in 2022 when they clinched bronze at the maiden CAF Women’s Champions League, defeating Simba Queens of Tanzania 1-0 in the third-place match. This year, the team is targeting another deep run—not only to reclaim continental glory but also to keep their hopes alive for a spot in the first-ever FIFA Women’s Club Championship.
