Super Eagles captain William Troost Ekong has identified four influential players who provide strong leadership within Eric Chelle’s squad.
The defender shared his thoughts after Nigeria’s impressive 4–1 win over Gabon in the semi final playoff of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Thursday.
Nigeria secured the victory through goals from Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke, and a brace from Victor Osimhen in Rabat, Morocco. Mario Lemina scored for Gabon, but it made no difference to the final outcome.
With the win, the Super Eagles advance to Sunday’s playoff final against DR Congo.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Troost Ekong explained, through comments shared by Victor Modo, that Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Moses Simon are among the players providing leadership in the team.
“We have many leaders in this squad. Victor Osimhen leads in his own way, and so do Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Moses Simon,” he said. “A lot of our players are stepping up and showing their maturity.”
The captain added that the team’s growing confidence is clear as they prepare for the decisive final.
