Super Eagles skipper William Troost Ekong is said to be thinking seriously about stepping away from the national team after Nigeria’s disappointing miss at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Respected Nigerian football analyst MikeThePundit disclosed that the defender is unlikely to feature at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco this December.
According to Mike, Troost Ekong addressed his teammates inside the dressing room after the defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo, hinting that he may have played his final game for Nigeria.
He quoted the captain as saying, “I will watch you as a fan at the AFCON.”
Troost Ekong, 32, has seen his involvement reduce significantly in recent matches and has not started any of the Super Eagles’ last three fixtures.
The Al Kholood defender now appears set to make a major decision about his future with the national team.
