Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has shed light on the key factors behind Nigeria’s 3–2 victory over Tunisia in their Africa Cup of Nations group clash on Saturday.
Nigeria sealed the win courtesy of goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman, handing Tunisia their first defeat of the tournament.
The result pushed the Super Eagles to the top of Group C with six points from two matches. Tunisia remain second, while Tanzania and Uganda occupy third and fourth spots respectively.
Reacting after the game, Chelle praised his players’ composure and ball control, insisting Nigeria dominated large periods of the encounter.
According to the coach, maintaining possession for most of the game allowed his side to dictate the tempo and create scoring opportunities against a usually disciplined Tunisian team.
“Tunisia didn’t concede a single goal during the World Cup qualifiers,” Chelle told RFI. “Scoring three goals against such a team shows the quality of our performance. For about 70 minutes, we controlled the ball very well.”
Nigeria will now turn their attention to their final group fixture against Uganda in the coming days, with qualification already within reach.
