Chelsea are stepping up efforts to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, with two members of their current squad expected to depart Stamford Bridge before the January transfer window shuts.
Reports from Sky Sports News indicate that Jacquet has already expressed a strong desire to join the Premier League side. The 19-year-old is understood to be open to a move to west London, with Chelsea now working to determine whether a deal can be finalised immediately or delayed until the summer transfer window.
Negotiations between Chelsea and Rennes are said to be ongoing, with both clubs weighing the terms of a potential agreement. While Chelsea would prefer to complete the signing this month, a summer transfer remains a realistic alternative should talks fail to progress quickly.
In the meantime, Chelsea are preparing to trim their squad by sending Axel Disasi and Aaron Anselmino out on loan. The club believes temporary exits for both defenders would provide them with regular playing time while also freeing up space within the squad.
Strasbourg and Rennes have emerged as possible destinations for Disasi and Anselmino respectively, with loan slots expected to become available at both clubs before the window closes. Discussions are ongoing as Chelsea explore the most suitable options for the players’ development.
The proposed exits align with Chelsea’s broader strategy of reshaping the squad during the second half of the season. Manager Liam Rosenior is keen to strike a balance between reducing numbers and reinforcing key areas, as the club looks to remain competitive across domestic and European competitions.
Chelsea’s recruitment team continues to monitor the situation closely, with the coming days expected to be decisive in determining whether Jacquet arrives at Stamford Bridge this winter or later in the year.
