Nnadi appreciates Taiwo’s support after sealing Marseille switch
Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi has expressed his gratitude to former Nigeria defender Taye Taiwo following his transfer to French giants Marseille.
Taiwo, who enjoyed a successful spell at Marseille, sent a warm welcome message to Nnadi via the club’s official social media platforms, hailing the move as a proud moment.
“Hi Nnadi, congratulations. Welcome to Marseille,” Taiwo said in the video. “I hope you enjoy your time here. In Nigeria, we don’t hold grudges. All the best.”
The former left-back spent six years with the Ligue 1 club between 2005 and 2011 and is still held in high regard by the Marseille faithful.
Reacting, Nnadi described Taiwo’s words as deeply meaningful as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.
“I want to say a big thank you to Uncle Taiwo,” the midfielder said. “This message means a lot to me. Like he said, Nigeria doesn’t hold grudges.”
The 22-year-old recently completed a reported €6 million move from Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem to Marseille, signing a long-term deal that will keep him at the club until 2030.
Nnadi made 16 league starts in Belgium this season and also marked a major milestone internationally, earning his first senior national team call-up at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He went on to make his debut in Nigeria’s group-stage victory over Uganda.
