BENIN CROWN PRINCE COMMITS TO ADVANCEMENT OF NSC GRASSROOTS SPORTS INITIATIVES
National Sports Commission is collaborating with Prince Ezelekhae Ewuare, crown prince of Great Benin kingdom, as the Commission’s grassroots sports ambassador.
Speaking while unveiling the grassroots sports ambassador, NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko pointed out that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR disposition towards grassroots sports development informs the commission’s unflinching move in this direction.
His words, “The president is fully committed to taking sports to the grassroots. He believes that we need regular supply of talents from the grassroots to advance and sustain our giant strides in sports. This can be evidenced by the fact that he appointed, not just an SA on grassroots sports development, but an SSA. When we see the direction the president is going, we don’t have to do otherwise. We are committed to delivering on the president’s mandate.”
Dikko is optimistic that with the involvement of Prince Ewuare, who is a grassroots sports enthusiast, as one of the faces of grassroots sports, the commission’s sports economy drive will get a lift.
He continued, “I know how zealous you are about development of sports from the grassroots. You were here about three or four weeks ago and we had robust engagements. Your passion for grassroots sports is infectious. I have no doubt that with you on board as the face of grassroots sports, we will get the private sector on board in this sports economy injunction handed to us by Mr. President.
“We are happy to have you a member of the NSC family just as we are very happy to be members of the Benin royal family. This is a game-changing relationship that should take sports to the next level, not just in Benin but in the entire country.”
On his part, SSA to the president on Grassroots Sports Development, Adeyinka Adeboye is optimistic that the commission’s leadership will not disappoint the president.
“All these unprecedented attention the president is giving to sports is because he trusts fully in the abilities of our chairman, an achiever par excellence, (Dikko), our DG (Hon Bukola Olopade) and his boy here (Adeboye) as SSA. This combo can’t afford to fail and, by God’s grace, we won’t fail”, he noted.
Speaking earlier, Prince Ewuare had, while expressing his appreciation to the commission for the honour and privilege, pledged his commitment to the assignment.
“As a grassroots sports ambassador, my mission is to inspire, empower, and connect with our youths in various communities. Grassroots sports are more than games; they are schools of discipline, teamwork and resilience. I envision a future where every Nigerian child, regardless of background, has access to quality sports programs, mentorship and opportunities to showcase their talent on local and global stages. Together we can unlock the potential of millions of young Nigerians”, he said.
Highpoint of the event was the display of the rich Benin culture by a cultural troupe at the Commission’s premises.
