Aston Villa have confirmed they will not be signing Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal following his loan spell from Manchester United. The England forward had joined the club in February after a fallout with United manager Ruben Amorim and made 17 appearances, scoring four goals and providing six assists before an injury ended his season early.
The club had the option to buy Rashford for £40 million, but have now decided against it. He returns to Manchester United, bringing an end to his brief stint at Villa Park.
Rashford is not the only departure. Aston Villa also announced that Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi will be leaving the club after completing their respective loan deals from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
In a statement, the club said Marco Asensio, Marcus Rashford, and Axel Disasi all joined in February on short-term deals until the end of the 2024/25 season. Asensio made 21 appearances and scored eight goals, including three against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Rashford contributed nine goal involvements across all competitions and scored twice in the FA Cup quarter-final against Preston North End. Disasi made 10 appearances after arriving from Chelsea, debuting against Ipswich Town.
Aston Villa thanked the trio for their efforts and professionalism during their time at the club and wished them success in the next phase of their careers.
