The Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured a spot in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, defeating the reigning champions South Africa 2-1 in a hard-fought match.
The Super Falcons had early scoring opportunities through Chiwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo, but South Africa goalkeeper Andile Dlamini made crucial saves to deny them.
The match remained goalless until the 44th minute when Rasheedat Ajibade scored a penalty after Bomgeka Gamede handled the ball in the box.
South Africa equalized through Linda Motlhalo’s penalty in the 60th minute. However, the Super Falcons regained the lead in stoppage time when the right-back scored with a long-range effort, securing Nigeria’s spot in the final.
