Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign highly rated defender Valentin Barco, with the player already giving the green light to the move ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, personal terms have been successfully agreed between both parties, clearing a major hurdle in the deal as the Blues move closer to completing the transfer.
The 21-year-old currently plays for Strasbourg, another club under the BlueCo ownership structure, where he moved permanently last summer for a fee of £8.7 million after an initial loan spell from Brighton.
Barco has since impressed in the French league, quickly adapting to his new environment and becoming a regular figure in the team. He has made 37 appearances so far, contributing two goals and drawing attention with his performances.
Widely regarded as one of Argentina’s most promising young defenders, Barco’s development in France appears to have convinced Chelsea of his readiness for a step up.
His earlier stint at Brighton did not quite live up to expectations, as he struggled for consistent game time and made just seven Premier League appearances following his arrival at the Amex Stadium in 2024.
Chelsea will now be hoping the defender can fulfil his potential at Stamford Bridge as they continue to invest in young talent for the future.
