Ademola Lookman has admitted that Atlético Madrid will face a difficult challenge when they take on Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final.
The highly anticipated clash is set to take place at the Estadio de la Cartuja, where Atlético Madrid will be aiming to secure their 11th Copa del Rey title. The club last lifted the trophy during the 2012/13 season, when they defeated city rivals Real Madrid in the final.
Heading into the encounter, Atlético appear to have momentum on their side. Diego Simeone’s men are coming off an impressive UEFA Champions League victory over Barcelona earlier in the week, a result that has boosted confidence within the squad.
In addition, Atlético Madrid have enjoyed a strong recent record against Real Sociedad, remaining unbeaten in their last ten meetings. Despite that advantage, Lookman has stressed that past results will count for little once the final kicks off.
The Nigerian forward acknowledged the quality of their opponents and warned that the encounter will be far from straightforward, given the stakes involved in a major cup final.
“It will be a tough, tough game, but we have a chance to win a very important trophy for the club,” Lookman said ahead of the showdown.
With both teams eager to claim silverware, the final is expected to be a closely contested battle, as Atlético Madrid look to end their long wait for another Copa del Rey triumph while Real Sociedad aim to cause an upset on the big stage.
