Finidi George has called on his Rivers United players to build on their recent Federation Cup success as they prepare for a crucial Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter against Abia Warriors.
Rivers United head into the fixture in high spirits after a convincing 3-0 victory over Willbros FC in the final of their state Federation Cup on Sunday. The dominant performance not only secured silverware but also provided a timely confidence boost ahead of their upcoming league assignment.
The Port Harcourt-based side will host Abia Warriors in a matchday 36 clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium next weekend, in what is expected to be a fiercely contested encounter as the NPFL season approaches its conclusion.
Speaking after the cup triumph, Finidi emphasized the importance of maintaining the same level of intensity and attacking efficiency shown in the final. He noted that scoring three goals in the last outing should serve as motivation for the team to deliver a similar performance in the league.
The former Super Eagles winger also acknowledged the challenge posed by Abia Warriors, describing the Umuahia-based club as a difficult opponent capable of causing problems. He stressed that his players must remain focused and put in maximum effort if they hope to secure all three points.
According to Finidi, the recent victory provides a positive platform, but it will count for little if the team fails to translate that form into their league campaign. With the season nearing its final stages, every match carries significant weight, making consistency a key factor in achieving their objectives.
Rivers United will be aiming to use their home advantage and renewed confidence to overcome Abia Warriors, as they continue their push for a strong finish in the NPFL standings.
