Manchester United could sensationally abandon their pursuit of Elliot Anderson after Nottingham Forest placed a staggering £120 million valuation on the midfielder.
The 23 year old has become one of the most sought after players in the Premier League this season, attracting strong interest from both United and rivals Manchester City as they aim to strengthen their midfield options.
However, the situation has taken a dramatic turn. United have reportedly set a strict limit on how much they are willing to spend and are not prepared to meet Forest’s asking price. If the valuation remains unchanged, the club is ready to walk away from the deal entirely.
The need for reinforcements has grown following confirmation that Casemiro will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. The experienced midfielder recently delivered an outstanding performance in the 2 to 1 victory over Brentford, highlighting the gap his departure will create.
There is also uncertainty surrounding Manuel Ugarte, whose potential exit could force United to sign up to three midfielders in the upcoming transfer window.
While Anderson remains a priority target, the club is already exploring alternatives. Players such as Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali and Aurélien Tchouaméni are being considered as possible options who may offer better value.
Anderson has impressed this season with 44 appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists, but United are not convinced those numbers justify such a high fee.
Other names under consideration include Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion as well as a more affordable option from Atalanta, as the club looks to strengthen without overspending.
With negotiations at a delicate stage, the outcome remains uncertain. The key question now is whether Nottingham Forest will lower their demands or risk losing one of their prized assets.
One thing is clear, this transfer saga is far from over.
