The Nigeria Premier Football League has caused fresh talking points after announcing a sudden change to one of its Matchday 36 fixtures, involving Ikorodu City and Wikki Tourists.
What was initially expected to take place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, will now be played two days later on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, following an official rescheduling by the league organisers.
The decision was taken after it was confirmed that the Lagos State Federation Cup final will also be held on the same original date. Both events were set to take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, making it impossible for the venue to host two major matches on the same day.
To avoid a clash and ensure smooth organisation of both competitions, the NPFL moved the league fixture. In its official explanation, the league stated that the change was necessary due to the Federation Cup final schedule at the same stadium on May 3.
The adjustment adds another twist to what is already shaping up to be a tense end to the season. Ikorodu City are still pushing hard in their quest for a historic NPFL title, with every remaining match carrying huge significance for their ambitions.
Wikki Tourists, meanwhile, find themselves in a dangerous position as they battle to stay clear of relegation. The club will now have a slightly extended wait before returning to action in what is expected to be a high pressure fixture.
With the season entering its final stages, even small changes like this are beginning to draw attention as clubs fight for very different objectives at both ends of the table.
