Malawi women’s national football team have strengthened their squad with foreign-based players ahead of their crucial second-leg clash against Nigeria women’s national under-20 football team in the final qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Head coach Maggie Chombo has included Sweden-based midfielder Faith Chinzimu and France-based forward Rose Kabzere in her squad as Malawi look to overturn a 2-0 first-leg defeat suffered in Ikenne, Nigeria.
The decisive return fixture will take place at the Bingu National Stadium on Saturday, where Malawi must produce a strong performance to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
Chinzimu, who plays for Swedish side BK Häcken FF, brings valuable European experience to the midfield. The 19-year-old was part of the squad that won the 2025/26 Women’s Europa League, adding significant pedigree to Malawi’s lineup.
Kabzere, who currently plays for French club Montpellier, also adds attacking depth as Malawi attempt to recover from their two-goal deficit and push for a historic first-ever qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Despite the addition of overseas talent, Malawi face a difficult challenge against a confident Nigerian side that already holds a strong advantage from the first leg. The Falconets will be aiming to complete the job and secure their place in the next stage of qualification.
The match is expected to be intense, with Malawi needing both defensive discipline and attacking efficiency to stand any chance of overturning the aggregate scoreline.
