The Confederation of African Football CAF will conduct the draw at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association setting the stage for the qualification journey toward the expanded tournament which will be jointly hosted by Kenya Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17 2027.
This edition branded AFCON PAMOJA 2027 will make history as the first time the continental competition is staged across three host nations. A total of 48 teams are expected to compete in the qualifiers including the three host countries who automatically secure spots in the final tournament.
The qualifying format will see teams placed into 12 groups of four with the top two nations from each group normally advancing to the finals. However in groups containing any of the host nations only one additional team will progress alongside them since the hosts already have guaranteed qualification.
