Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has finally spoken about his future at Celtic after enjoying a successful debut season with the Scottish Premiership champions.
The Nigerian international admitted he is eager to remain at Celtic Park beyond this season but revealed that the final decision now rests with the club’s management.
Iheanacho joined Celtic on a free transfer last summer after leaving Spanish side Sevilla and quickly became one of the fans’ favourite players thanks to his important goals and strong performances in crucial matches.
The 29-year-old played a major role in Celtic’s successful campaign, helping the club secure domestic silverware while also impressing in cup competitions.
He ended the season with nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions, including a memorable strike in Celtic’s Scottish Cup final victory over Dunfermline Athletic at Hampden Park.
Despite his impact, uncertainty still surrounds his future because Celtic are yet to decide whether to activate the option to extend his contract for another season.
Speaking after the campaign, Iheanacho made it clear that he would love to continue his journey with the Hoops.
“I hope I’m still a Celtic player at the start of next season, but I leave that to the club to sort out,” Iheanacho told Premier Sports.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City forward has reportedly attracted interest from clubs in England, Turkey and Saudi Arabia following his impressive performances in Scotland.
However, Celtic supporters have already taken to social media urging the club to hand the Nigerian striker a new contract, insisting he still has plenty to offer.
Iheanacho’s experience, versatility and ability to deliver in big moments have made him a valuable figure in Brendan Rodgers’ squad, especially during the second half of the season.
With transfer speculation continuing to grow, Celtic are now expected to make a final decision on the striker’s future in the coming weeks as preparations begin for next season’s UEFA Champions League campaign.
