The Nationwide League One has taken strong disciplinary action against Campos FC chairman Patrick Osuji following allegations of intimidation involving match officials and misconduct before a scheduled league clash against OISA FC.
According to reports from the league body, the incident occurred ahead of Campos FC’s fixture against OISA FC after Osuji allegedly demanded a change of match officials without any official justification.
The situation reportedly escalated when the club chairman instructed his players not to participate in the game, leading to the eventual cancellation of the encounter.
The NLO also accused Osuji of assaulting the Imo State Football Association secretary during the controversy, an incident that has sparked fresh concerns about discipline and professionalism within grassroots football in Nigeria.
In an official response, the league condemned the actions, describing them as a serious violation of sportsmanship, fair play, and the standards expected from clubs participating in the competition.
As part of the punishment, the NLO awarded the abandoned match to OISA FC with three points and three goals in line with league regulations.
Campos FC were also fined ₦500,000, with the league making it clear that the payment must be completed before the club can participate in another fixture.
In addition to the financial sanction, both Patrick Osuji and another club official identified as Nnadozie have been suspended indefinitely from all Nationwide League One activities pending the outcome of further disciplinary proceedings.
League authorities stated that the sanctions take immediate effect and warned that strict measures would continue against any form of misconduct capable of damaging the image of Nigerian grassroots football.
The controversy has already generated strong reactions among football followers, with many calling for stricter enforcement of disciplinary rules across lower divisions to improve professionalism and protect match officials from intimidation and abuse.
The latest development adds to a growing list of disciplinary issues handled by the NLO this season as the league intensifies efforts to strengthen credibility and maintain order within grassroots competitions across the country. Galaxy Sports Production
