NPFL Winner to Earn Historic N1 Billion as NSC Unveils Major Financial Reforms
The Nigeria Premier Football League is set for a financial transformation after the National Sports Commission (NSC) approved a record N1 billion prize for the winner of the 2026/27 season.
The announcement represents the biggest prize-money package in the history of the NPFL and signals a major push to improve the league’s competitiveness, professionalism and commercial appeal.
Under the new structure, the league champions will receive N1 billion, while the runners-up will earn N800 million. The team that finishes third will take home N700 million, with clubs further down the table also receiving financial rewards based on their final league position.
The reforms are not limited to prize money.
In another landmark decision, the NSC has approved a minimum monthly salary of N2 million for NPFL players, a move expected to improve player welfare and raise professional standards across the league.
The figures mark a dramatic increase from previous seasons. Enugu Rangers received N150 million for winning the league title in the 2023/24 campaign, while reigning champions Remo Stars earned N100 million for their triumph.
The new financial package is expected to increase competition among clubs, attract greater investment and improve the overall quality of the domestic game. It could also help reduce the movement of players to lower-paying leagues abroad by creating better opportunities within Nigeria.
With the 2026/27 season approaching, the announcement has already generated excitement across the football community, as clubs prepare to compete for what is now the most lucrative prize ever offered in Nigerian league football.
