Daniel Ogunmodede’s next chapter in Nigerian football is beginning to attract serious attention. After emerging as one of the brightest young coaches in the Nigeria Premier Football League over the past few seasons, the former Remo Stars manager is now the subject of interest from two of the country’s biggest clubs. Both Enyimba and Kano Pillars are looking to appoint a coach capable of leading ambitious rebuilding projects, and Ogunmodede has quickly become one of the leading candidates.
It is little surprise. Ogunmodede’s reputation has grown steadily through his work at Remo Stars, where he transformed the Ikenne-based club into one of the strongest sides in the NPFL. His biggest achievement came two years ago when he guided the club to the league title, a landmark success that cemented his status among the country’s most promising tacticians.
The triumph was the reward for years of steady progress, with Ogunmodede earning praise for his tactical flexibility, player development and ability to build a competitive team capable of challenging the traditional powers of Nigerian football.
His spell at Remo Stars, however, came to an end last season. Following a difficult campaign in which the club struggled for consistency and endured a poor run of form, Ogunmodede departed the Ikenne outfit, bringing to a close one of the most successful managerial tenures in the club’s recent history.
Despite that setback, his stock within Nigerian football has remained high. Away from club football, Ogunmodede continues to serve as one of the assistant coaches of the Super Eagles, further strengthening his credentials and keeping him closely involved with the country’s elite players and coaching structure.
Now, attention has turned to where he will continue his club career. Enyimba are believed to be among the clubs keen to secure his services as they look to recover from what proved to be a turbulent season. Nigeria’s most successful club are planning significant changes and see the appointment of the right head coach as a crucial first step in restoring stability and returning to the summit of the NPFL.
Kano Pillars are also firmly in the race. The former league champions are understood to regard Ogunmodede as the ideal candidate to lead their next phase of development. Club officials believe his track record of building competitive teams and his experience at both club and international level make him well suited to guide the Sai Masu Gida back into title contention.
With two of the NPFL’s biggest clubs pursuing the same target, Ogunmodede now faces an important career decision. Rather than rushing into an appointment, the highly rated coach is expected to carefully assess his options before deciding on his next destination.
A decision is anticipated in the coming weeks. For both Enyimba and Kano Pillars, the wait continues.
For Ogunmodede, the interest from two of Nigeria’s most decorated clubs is another indication that, despite the difficult end to his time at Remo Stars, his reputation as one of the country’s finest young tacticians remains firmly intact.
