Galatasaray midfielder Renato Nhaga has paid tribute to Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for the support he has received since arriving at the Turkish champions, describing the Super Eagles star as both a mentor and an inspiration to African footballers.
Speaking during an interview with Le Marca Sports, the 19-year-old Guinea-Bissau international revealed that Osimhen played a significant role in helping him adapt to life at the Istanbul club following his move earlier this year. According to Nhaga, the Nigerian forward made him feel welcome from the moment he arrived and has continued to offer guidance and encouragement both on and off the pitch.
The young midfielder said Osimhen’s kindness and leadership have made settling into a new environment much easier. He explained that the former African Player of the Year has consistently looked out for him, ensuring he felt comfortable within the squad while also providing valuable advice as he adjusts to the demands of Turkish football.
Beyond his personal support, Nhaga praised Osimhen’s journey to the top of world football, saying it serves as a powerful source of motivation for aspiring African players. He noted that the Nigerian striker’s rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of the continent’s biggest football stars demonstrates what can be achieved through determination, hard work, and resilience.
“Osimhen is a very important figure, not just for me but for African players in general,” Nhaga said. “He came from very little and worked his way to the highest level of the game. That makes him a huge role model for many of us.”
He added that Osimhen welcomed him warmly upon his arrival at Galatasaray and has remained a constant source of support ever since.
“From my first day at the club, he has always been there for me. He made me feel at home, continues to encourage me, and always looks out for me. Having someone like him around has made my transition much easier,” the midfielder stated.
Nhaga joined Galatasaray from Portuguese side Casa Pia in January 2026 and is regarded as one of the club’s promising young midfield talents. As he continues to develop his career in Turkey, the teenager believes having an experienced player like Osimhen in the dressing room has been invaluable, both professionally and personally.
Osimhen has earned widespread praise throughout his career not only for his exploits in front of goal but also for his leadership qualities and willingness to mentor younger teammates. Nhaga’s comments further highlight the positive influence the Nigerian international continues to have within the Galatasaray squad, extending beyond his performances on the field.
