Nigeria opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar on Friday but remain second in Group L after Guinea-Bissau also secured victory.

The Super Eagles fell behind early in Uyo before recovering to claim all three points and begin their qualifying campaign with a win.

However, Guinea-Bissau moved to the top of the group after defeating Tanzania 2-0 at home.

Franculino Djú put Guinea-Bissau ahead in the 33rd minute before Mama Baldé doubled their advantage in the 58th minute to complete the victory.

The result leaves Nigeria second in Group L ahead of their next fixture, which will take them to Bissau on Tuesday for a meeting with Guinea-Bissau.

The match will put the two early pace-setters in the group against each other, with Nigeria looking to build on their opening-day victory and close the gap at the top.

The Super Eagles’ 2-1 win over Madagascar means Éric Chelle’s side have started the qualifying campaign with three points, but Tuesday’s fixture presents a tougher early test against the team currently leading the group.
