Nigeria began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo on Friday but sit second in Group L after Guinea-Bissau also opened their campaign with a win.
The Super Eagles fell behind early before recovering to secure all three points, giving Éric Chelle’s side a winning start to the qualifiers.
Guinea-Bissau, however, moved to the top of the group after beating Tanzania 2-0 at home.
Franculino Djú broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute before Mama Baldé doubled the hosts’ advantage 13 minutes into the second half.
The result leaves Guinea-Bissau top of Group L, with Nigeria second on three points ahead of their meeting in Bissau on Tuesday.
The fixture will bring together the two teams that opened the campaign with victories, with Nigeria looking to maintain their momentum and move to the top of the group.
For Chelle’s side, the trip to Bissau represents their first away test of the qualifying campaign and an opportunity to strengthen their position in Group L.
