The Head Coach of Godswill Akpabio United FC, Edward Green, has sent a strong message of intent to their Nigeria National League (NNL) rivals ahead of the commencement of the 2026/27 season, declaring his side’s determination to compete, push their limits and achieve something special in the upcoming campaign.
Speaking with Galaxy Sports on his birthday, the tactician expressed optimism about his team’s prospects, insisting that Godswill Akpabio United are determined to make their presence felt in the league and go as far as their hard work and commitment can take them.
Green, while acknowledging the challenge ahead, maintained that the club’s priority is to compete strongly, give their best throughout the campaign and hopefully turn their efforts into something memorable.
“We want to compete in the league and go as far as we can. Hopefully, our efforts will lead us to beautiful things,” Green told Galaxy Sports.
The coach’s statement reflects the ambition within the Godswill Akpabio United camp as preparations continue for the new campaign. His message suggests a team focused on making meaningful progress, competing against the best in their conference and taking advantage of every opportunity that comes their way.
Rather than making unrealistic promises, Green emphasised the importance of competing and allowing the team’s collective efforts to determine how far they can go. The coach will now be looking to translate that ambition into performances on the pitch when the season gets underway.
Godswill Akpabio United have been drawn in Conference A, where they will face a challenging lineup of opponents, including Remo Stars FC, Edel FC, Ikorodu City FA, Stormers SC, Heartland FC, Crown FC, Sunshine Stars FC and OYC FC.
The composition of Conference A sets the stage for an intriguing battle, with all nine clubs expected to compete for valuable points as they pursue their respective ambitions in the second-tier league.
Meanwhile, the opening match of the 2026/27 Nigeria National League season is scheduled for October 31, while the full league programme is expected to get underway on November 7.
The new campaign is expected to run until April 2027, with the season set to conclude with the Super 4 Tournament scheduled to take place from April 14 to 18.
With the league calendar now released, participating clubs are expected to intensify preparations and ensure they meet the necessary registration, licensing and stadium requirements ahead of the new season.
The announcement has officially set the countdown in motion for another competitive NNL campaign, with clubs preparing to battle for promotion, survival and success.
For Edward Green and Godswill Akpabio United, the immediate task will be to build a competitive side capable of navigating the challenges of Conference A and turning their preseason preparations into positive results.
As the new season approaches, Green’s birthday message to his team and their rivals carries a clear ambition: Godswill Akpabio United want to compete, go as far as possible and hopefully see their efforts lead to beautiful things.
