The list of teams heading home from the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to grow, with Bosnia and Herzegovina becoming the latest nation to bow out of the tournament following a 2 nil defeat to co hosts the United States in the Round of 32.
The Americans secured their place in the last 16 through goals from Folarin Balogun and Malik Tillman in a hard fought victory. Balogun opened the scoring before Tillman wrapped up the result with a superb second half free kick, ensuring Mauricio Pochettino’s side progressed despite finishing the game with ten men after Balogun was sent off.
Earlier on Thursday, Belgium also booked their place in the next round after producing one of the most dramatic comebacks of the tournament. Rudi Garcia’s side recovered from two goals down to defeat Senegal 3 to 2 after extra time in Seattle.
Youri Tielemans was the hero for the Red Devils, scoring twice including the decisive penalty deep into extra time after Romelu Lukaku had sparked Belgium’s remarkable fightback with a late goal in normal time. The victory sealed Belgium’s place in the Round of 16 while ending Senegal’s impressive World Cup campaign.
Following the latest Round of 32 fixtures, Senegal and Bosnia and Herzegovina have joined Ecuador, Sweden, Ivory Coast, Japan, DR Congo, Germany, South Africa and the Netherlands as the ten nations eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With the knockout stage gathering momentum, the remaining teams will now turn their attention to the Round of 16 as the race for football’s biggest prize continues.
