The Ballon d’Or rankings for August 2026 have been released by Score 90, with Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé currently leading the race for the prestigious individual award.
Mbappé’s position at the top of the ranking is largely down to his outstanding performances for France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. The Real Madrid star scored 10 goals and provided four assists during the tournament, helping France finish in fourth place.
The French forward also achieved a remarkable individual feat during the year. Mbappé became the first player to win the Golden Boot awards in LaLiga, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA World Cup in the same calendar year, further strengthening his case for the Ballon d’Or.
Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal occupies second place in the August ranking. The Spanish winger played a key role in Barcelona’s success, helping the Catalan giants secure both the LaLiga title and the Supercopa de España. He also made an important contribution to Spain’s campaign at the World Cup.
Yamal’s continued rise has placed him among the leading contenders for the award despite his young age. His performances at club and international level have made him one of the most influential young players in world football.
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane is ranked third. The England captain enjoyed an exceptional campaign with the German club, scoring 73 goals and helping Bayern Munich win a domestic double while also reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Kane was also influential for England at the 2026 World Cup, helping the Three Lions finish in third place. His extraordinary goalscoring record for Bayern, combined with his contribution to England’s run in North America, has kept him firmly in contention for the Ballon d’Or.
Former Manchester City midfielder Rodri is fourth in the Score 90 ranking. The Spain international, who won the 2024 Ballon d’Or, played a crucial role in Spain’s World Cup triumph and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after receiving the Golden Ball.
Rodri also enjoyed success at club level during the year. The midfielder, who now plays for Barcelona, won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup with Manchester City, adding further silverware to his impressive résumé.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland completes the top five. The Norwegian forward scored seven goals during his debut FIFA World Cup campaign with Norway and also helped Manchester City win both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
Haaland finished the 2025-26 season with an impressive 38 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions. His remarkable scoring numbers, combined with his domestic success and World Cup contribution, have kept him among the leading candidates for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
The current top five ranking therefore features Mbappé in first, followed by Yamal, Kane, Rodri and Haaland. With the Ballon d’Or race still developing, performances during the coming months could significantly alter the standings before the final award is decided.
