Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has revealed that he will hold discussions with the club’s sporting director, Deco, this week over the possibility of signing a new striker before the summer transfer window closes.

Flick made the comments after Barcelona produced an emphatic 5-0 victory over Elche in LaLiga on Sunday. Despite the convincing result, the German manager confirmed that the club could still strengthen its attacking options before the transfer deadline.

Speaking about the possibility of Barcelona bringing in another striker, Flick said, as quoted by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano: “I will speak to Deco, and we will see. Let’s see what happens this week.”

The comments suggest that Barcelona are still considering their options in the final days of the transfer window. Flick appears to be leaving the decision open as he prepares to discuss the matter with Deco and assess whether the club should make another addition to its forward line.

Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal have submitted a €55 million bid for the 25-year-old, with the club now hoping to convince the Premier League champions to sanction his departure before the transfer window closes.

According to The Times’ Gary Jacob, Al Hilal are attempting to tempt Arsenal into selling Martinelli with the €55 million proposal. However, the offer currently falls below Arsenal’s reported £60 million asking price for the Brazilian.

Arsenal are yet to accept the bid, meaning negotiations could continue as Al Hilal attempt to bridge the gap between their offer and the Gunners’ valuation of the player. The Saudi club’s interest adds further uncertainty to Martinelli’s future at the Emirates Stadium.

Martinelli has already been linked with a move to Galatasaray earlier in the summer, while Arsenal appear increasingly open to allowing the Brazilian winger to leave during the current transfer window.

A departure for around £60 million would represent a major financial return for Arsenal and would reportedly set a new club record for the sale of a player. The Gunners previously received £35 million for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain when he joined Liverpool in 2017, while Nicolas Anelka moved to Real Madrid for €35 million in 2000.
