Manchester United are inching closer to securing the services of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, with discussions reportedly progressing over a potential summer transfer worth £62.5 million.
While the Red Devils have yet to trigger the Brazil international’s release clause, insiders suggest the club is confident of finalizing personal terms before the month ends keeping them within financial fair play boundaries.
As speculation intensifies, Cunha sparked fresh buzz on Wednesday after sharing a subtle Instagram post from Wolves’ training facility. The 25-year-old uploaded a gym photo alongside teammates Yerson Mosquera and Nelson Semedo, captioned: “Let’s work shall we… Too much conversation.” Many saw it as a nod to the swirling transfer rumors linking him with a move to Old Trafford.
The attacker is reportedly eager to join United’s project under new boss Ruben Amorim, who has long admired Cunha’s adaptability and goal threat. Amorim was even spotted chatting with the forward both at Molineux and later at Old Trafford, following recent Premier League clashes between the two sides.
Newcastle United have also shown strong interest, hoping to deploy Cunha on the left wing. But it appears the Wolves man is more attracted to the central role promised at United, where he could play a key part in Amorim’s attacking rebuild.
This isn’t the first time Cunha has taken to social media with vague messages about his future. Earlier this month, he posted on his Instagram story: “Time to be happy. I will follow my dreams, not yours. So stay cool.” The post, which was deleted shortly after, drew mixed reactions from Wolves fans, with some accusing him of being disrespectful.
One fan account, Talking Wolves, criticized his conduct, prompting a fiery response from Cunha who accused them of misrepresenting his intentions and fanning negativity. “I’m on the pitch solving problems for your club,” he replied, asserting his commitment to professionalism despite the rumors.
Still, the tension between Cunha and segments of the Wolves fanbase has lingered, fueling speculation that the striker is ready to move on.
Cunha has been a standout performer this season, netting 16 goals and registering four assists in 32 appearances. With Manchester United aiming to revamp their frontline especially after offloading Sancho, Antony, and potentially Rashford—Cunha’s arrival could be the injection of creativity and directness the team desperately needs.
United legend Gary Neville recently backed the move, telling Sky Sports: “They’re crying out for someone who can run at defenders and carry the ball through the middle. Cunha fits that profile perfectly.”
With the summer window looming, all eyes are now on United’s next moveand whether Cunha’s cryptic posts will soon be replaced with a welcome announcement in red.
