Bendel Insurance FC returned to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Abia Warriors FC in Benin City.
The crucial win ended Bendel Insurance’s three-match winless streak and has significantly boosted their hopes of finishing in a continental qualification position as the NPFL season intensifies.
Coached by Kennedy Boboye, the Benin Arsenal dominated proceedings in the first half, controlling possession and creating several attacking opportunities. However, they were repeatedly denied by a well-organized Abia Warriors defence that remained compact and disciplined throughout the opening 45 minutes.
Despite their dominance, Bendel Insurance failed to break the deadlock before halftime, leaving fans anxious as both teams went into the break goalless.
The breakthrough eventually came in the second half, as Chinedu Nwosu produced a moment of brilliance. Just two minutes after the hour mark, Nwosu found the back of the net with a composed finish, sending the home supporters into celebration.
Following the goal, Bendel Insurance shifted their approach, focusing on maintaining their lead while remaining dangerous on the counterattack. Their defensive discipline paid off, as they successfully resisted late pressure from Abia Warriors, who pushed forward in search of an equalizer.
The result sees Bendel Insurance climb to seventh position on the NPFL table with 49 points, strengthening their push for a top finish and possible continental qualification.
Despite the defeat, Abia Warriors remain in fourth place on the standings, keeping their ambitions intact as the season heads into its final stages.
The victory could serve as a turning point for Bendel Insurance, who will now look to build momentum and maintain consistency in their remaining fixtures.
