Benfica manager José Mourinho is reportedly interested in making a return to Real Madrid, according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Romano revealed via a social media update that the experienced Portuguese coach is open to taking charge of the Spanish giants again in the future, with the possibility of a comeback this summer being viewed as an appealing option.
Mourinho, who previously managed Real Madrid and enjoyed a successful spell at the club, has recently been linked with a return as the LaLiga side reportedly consider a managerial change at the end of the season. Current coach Álvaro Arbeloa is expected to leave his role, prompting discussions about possible replacements.
Speaking on the situation, Romano noted that Mourinho’s interest remains strong.
“Mourinho is absolutely keen and open to returning to Real Madrid,” he said. “It’s a desire by José Mourinho to return to Real Madrid one day, so the possibility to make it happen this summer would be something really appealing to the Special One.”
The reports suggest that Mourinho’s name is among those being considered as Real Madrid evaluate their options for the next phase of their project.
Having previously led the club between 2010 and 2013, the Portuguese tactician remains a well-known figure at the Santiago Bernabéu, and his potential return continues to generate discussion among fans and analysts.
As the situation develops, attention will remain on whether Real Madrid decide to make a managerial change and whether Mourinho ultimately becomes part of their plans once again.
