Rivers Angels goalkeeper Oloko Fatima has revealed that her major ambition for the upcoming season is to win a domestic double with the Port Harcourt-based side.
Speaking on the Sport Gallery show hosted by Faith Akindele (Mr Stereo) on Crowther 88.5 FM, Oyo, Fatima expressed her disappointment at not achieving that feat last season.
“We had our eyes on winning both the NWFL title and the President Federation Cup, but we could only lift the Federation Cup. It was my first major trophy with Rivers Angels, and though we gave it our all at the Super 8, it just wasn’t enough,” she explained.
Fatima recounted the intense Federation Cup final, where Rivers Angels went two goals down in the first half. “I wasn’t in goal that day, but I kept encouraging the team at halftime. I told the girls to keep believing. And by God’s grace, we turned it around and won. All thanks to God, our management, and our amazing fans.”
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, she said, “We’re already preparing seriously. We want to win the double next season and also represent the NWFL at the CAF Women’s Champions League.”
On her future, Fatima cleared the air about transfer rumours. “As of now, I’m still a Rivers Angels player. I’m not discussing any moves.”
She also used the opportunity to inspire young girls aspiring to play football. “I always tell the girls who reach out to me, believe in yourself, stay focused, and trust God. Dreams do come true.”
Fatima ended by expressing hope for a Super Falcons triumph at the ongoing WAFCON 2024. “By God’s grace, I believe I’ll get a national team call-up someday. And I wish the Super Falcons all the best in Morocco. I’m confident they can bring home the 10th WAFCON title.”
