The home based Super Eagles delivered an impressive performance to secure a 3-1 victory over their Ghanaian counterparts in the second leg of their CHAN 2025 qualifier, sealing their place in next year’s tournament.
The match, held in Uyo, showcased Nigeria’s dominance from the start. Sodiq Ismail opened the scoring in the 18th minute, calmly controlling a long ball from Nduka Junior before racing forward and slotting it into the net. Just three minutes later, Nduka Junior doubled the lead, capitalising on a defensive lapse to put the Super Eagles in control.
By the 24th minute, the scoreline read 3-0, thanks to Saviour Isaac, who intercepted a miscalculated pass from Ghanaian goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, skilfully evaded his marker, and finished with composure.
Despite Nigeria’s commanding lead, Ghana managed to pull one back in the 73rd minute through Stephen Amankona, whose well-taken strike gave the visitors a glimmer of hope.
The Super Eagles made strategic substitutions throughout the match, showcasing their squad depth. Notable changes included the introduction of Stephen Manyo, Kazeem Ogunleye, and Emmanuel Ogbole in the second half, as well as late appearances from Rabiu Ali and Samuel Ayanrinde.
As the final whistle blew, the Super Eagles celebrated their well-deserved victory. Goals from Sodiq Ismail, Nduka Junior, and Saviour Isaac proved pivotal in securing Nigeria’s spot at CHAN 2025, which is set to take place across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in February.
With this commanding win, Nigeria will aim to make a strong impression in the tournament as they prepare to face Africa’s finest teams.
