Victor Osimhen is on course to return to full fitness in time for Galatasaray’s crucial Turkish Super Lig derby against Fenerbahce after stepping up his recovery from injury.
The Nigerian striker has been sidelined since suffering an arm injury during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League play-off clash against Liverpool before the international break. The setback required surgery, temporarily halting his momentum in a key stage of the season.
However, positive updates from the club indicate that Osimhen has now rejoined squad training, marking a major step forward in his rehabilitation. He participated in non-contact drills on Saturday as he gradually builds up match fitness under a carefully managed recovery programme.
Although he was not included in the matchday squad for Galatasaray’s league fixture against Kocaelispor on Sunday, optimism remains high within the club regarding his return timeline.
A source close to the player has suggested that Osimhen could make a full return in time for the high-stakes Istanbul derby on April 26, with confidence growing that he will be ready to start against Fenerbahce.
“There’s a little chance he will be available for the Gençlerbirliği game, whether in the league or cup, but he will be 100 per cent ready to start against Fenerbahçe in the league,” the source said.
Club officials have also confirmed his gradual reintegration into training, noting that he initially worked with the team before continuing recovery sessions with physiotherapists in line with a personalised fitness plan.
Galatasaray remain in a tight title race in the Turkish Super Lig, making Osimhen’s return especially important as the season approaches its decisive phase. His presence is expected to boost the squad significantly, particularly in high-pressure matches.
Since joining Galatasaray on a permanent deal reportedly worth €75 million, Victor Osimhen has been a key figure for the club, delivering consistently with 12 league goals and seven additional strikes in European competition.
His potential return for the derby against Fenerbahce could prove decisive, as both Istanbul giants continue to battle for domestic supremacy in a fiercely contested title race.
