Chelsea have parted ways with head coach Liam Rosenior just over three months after his appointment.
Rosenior, who joined from French side Strasbourg on a long term contract, leaves after 106 days at the helm. During his time in charge, the team recorded 11 victories in 23 matches across all competitions.
His departure follows a disappointing run of form, capped by a heavy 3 0 defeat to Brighton. That result marked Chelsea’s fifth consecutive league loss without scoring, their worst goalless streak in over a century.
After the Brighton match, Rosenior openly criticised his team’s display, calling it “unacceptable” as frustration from travelling supporters became evident. The slump has seen Chelsea drop to seventh place in the Premier League, now seven points behind the Champions League qualification spots.
In an official statement, the club acknowledged Rosenior’s professionalism but said results had not met expectations during a crucial stage of the season.
Chelsea are now exploring options for a permanent replacement. Among the names reportedly under consideration are Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, Fulham boss Marco Silva, and former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic.
For the remainder of the campaign, assistant coach Calum McFarlane will step in as interim manager. He previously took temporary charge earlier in the season and will now lead the team into their upcoming FA Cup semi final clash against Leeds United at Wembley.
Rosenior’s tenure included five Premier League wins from 13 matches and a run to the FA Cup semi finals, although those victories came against lower league opposition.
Recent performances underline Chelsea’s struggles: just one win in their last nine league games, no clean sheets in 12 matches, and ongoing defensive vulnerabilities, particularly from set pieces.
The club has indicated it will reflect carefully before making a long term managerial appointment, aiming to bring stability after another swift change in leadership.
