Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to learn their opponents for the qualifying campaign of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations when the draw is conducted on Tuesday, 19 May.
The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that a total of 48 national teams, including the three co-host nations Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, will compete in the qualification series for the tournament.
The teams will be seeded into 12 groups, each containing four countries. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from every group will secure automatic qualification for the final tournament.
CAF has also outlined the competition timeline, with the opening match scheduled for 19 June 2027, while the grand final is expected to take place on 17 July 2027. However, the governing body is yet to announce the country that will host both the opening game and the final match.
The Super Eagles head into the qualifiers on the back of a strong continental showing, having finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco. Their performance has raised expectations ahead of the next qualification cycle as they aim to maintain their status among Africa’s elite football nations.
