Marcus Rashford has sent a public message of congratulations to Manchester United after his former club secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, despite the forward currently being away from Old Trafford.
United confirmed their return to Europe’s elite competition after a crucial 3–2 win over Liverpool on Sunday, a result that sealed a top-five finish in the league. The achievement marks a significant turnaround for the club, who had not featured in the Champions League since the later stages of Erik ten Hag’s tenure and had also missed out following the competition’s recent structural changes.
The victory ensured Manchester United, now managed by Michael Carrick, will once again compete at the highest level of European football. Their win over Liverpool proved decisive in a tightly contested race for Champions League places.
Even while on loan at FC Barcelona, Rashford showed he was still closely following developments at his parent club. The England international reshared United’s celebratory post on social media platform X, adding a simple “Congratulations” alongside a red heart emoji, signalling his continued emotional connection to the club where he came through the academy.
Rashford’s gesture was widely interpreted as a show of support for both the team and his former teammates, highlighting that despite his current spell in Spain, he remains emotionally tied to Manchester United.
At present, Rashford is enjoying a productive campaign with Barcelona, where he is approaching what could be his first league title abroad. He has contributed 13 goals and 14 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions, a strong return considering many of his outings have come from the bench rather than the starting XI.
Barcelona’s head coach Hansi Flick has publicly praised his impact, expressing satisfaction with his performances and noting his importance in key matches. However, Flick also avoided making any firm comments about Rashford’s long-term future, stressing that focus remains on finishing the season strongly.
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround the forward’s next step. Reports suggest Barcelona are interested in keeping him, but financial conditions tied to a permanent transfer, believed to be in the region of £26 million, could complicate a full deal. There is also speculation that the Spanish club may prefer extending his stay on another loan rather than committing to a permanent move.
Back in England, discussions about Rashford’s future at Manchester United remain open-ended. Club officials have reportedly not made a final decision on his long-term role, while former figures associated with the club have suggested that any outcome is still being evaluated.
For now, Rashford’s message of support stands out as a reminder of his connection to United, even as he continues to make his mark in La Liga and edges closer to potential silverware with Barcelona.
