Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has revealed the reason behind his decision to reject a lucrative €200 million proposal from Saudi Arabia during the previous summer transfer window.
The Portuguese midfielder admitted that uncertainty surrounded his future at Old Trafford at the time, with several reports linking him with a possible move away from the Premier League club. However, Fernandes chose to remain in Europe, insisting that financial gain has never been his main ambition.
Speaking during an appearance on the “Diary of a CEO” podcast, the 31-year-old said he values personal fulfillment and family principles above wealth.
“I could have become the wealthiest person from my hometown, but money has never been my ultimate goal,” Fernandes explained. “What matters to me is living out my dreams and teaching my children the importance of following their passions.”
The United captain also reflected on the sacrifices his wife made throughout his football journey. According to him, she stood by him long before fame and financial success arrived.
“She decided to chase this dream with me when we were very young,” he said. “We’ve been together since I was 16, and when I moved to Italy at 17, I was earning only €1,700 a month. Nothing was guaranteed then.”
Fernandes praised his wife for supporting him despite having ambitions of her own.
“She had her own plans and goals, but she chose to help me pursue mine. Today, we are blessed with a wonderful family and two amazing children,” he added.
