Villarreal have reportedly decided against offering Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey a contract extension, bringing his one-year spell at the club to an end.
According to The Athletic, the La Liga side have opted not to renew Partey’s deal beyond the current campaign, meaning the experienced midfielder will become a free agent once his contract expires at the end of June.
Partey joined Villarreal last summer after leaving Arsenal following the expiration of his contract in North London. During his time at the Estadio de la Cerámica, the former Atlético Madrid star played an important role in midfield, making 32 appearances across all competitions. His experience and leadership proved valuable throughout the season, but the club has ultimately decided not to continue the partnership.
The Ghana international is currently focused on international duty with the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, his tournament has not been without controversy. Reports indicate that Partey was recently denied a visa to enter Canada due to an ongoing legal proceeding in the United Kingdom, creating uncertainty around his participation in matches scheduled to be played there.
Despite the off-field issues, Partey remains part of Ghana’s World Cup squad as they continue their campaign, with his immediate club future now expected to attract interest from teams across Europe and beyond once he officially becomes available on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have strengthened their squad by confirming the signing of Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva.
The Spanish giants announced on Wednesday that they had reached an agreement with the former Manchester City midfielder, who left the Premier League champions at the end of last season after several successful years in England.
Silva has signed a two-year contract with Los Blancos that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2028. The move sees the Portugal international begin a new chapter in Spain under newly appointed Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.
Known for his technical ability, creativity, intelligence on the ball and versatility across midfield and attack, Silva is expected to add quality and experience to Madrid’s squad as they prepare for the new campaign and continue their pursuit of domestic and European honours.
The arrivals and departures involving both clubs mark another significant chapter in what has already been a busy summer transfer window, with more movement expected before the start of the 2026/27 season.
