Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has rejected the new nickname given to the club’s attacking trio after he, Joao Pedro and Morgan Rogers all found the net in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2026/27 season.
The trio have quickly been labelled ‘JP Morgan’ by Chelsea supporters, combining Joao Pedro’s first name with Morgan Rogers’ first name. However, Palmer is far from impressed with the nickname and believes the attackers should come up with something better.
Chelsea began their Premier League campaign with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage, with Palmer, Pedro and Rogers all getting on the scoresheet.
The result handed Xabi Alonso’s side maximum points from their opening league fixture and offered Chelsea supporters plenty of encouragement about the attacking potential within the squad.
Palmer and Pedro were particularly influential during the game, with both players assisting each other’s goals. Rogers also impressed, playing an important role in Chelsea’s attacking moves and creating five scoring opportunities during the encounter.
Their combined performance quickly led fans to give the three attackers the ‘JP Morgan’ nickname. The name, a play on the well-known financial institution, was widely discussed following Chelsea’s impressive attacking display.
Palmer, however, did not hide his dislike for the nickname when asked about it.
“It’s a rubbish name. We need to come up with something better than that,” Palmer told Sky Sports.
The England international instead highlighted the different qualities that each player brings to Chelsea’s attack and believes their contrasting styles make the trio effective.
“I think we’ve got a different mix of qualities. Joao can do a bit of everything. Morgan’s more physical and I’m more technical, so I think we’ve got a good balance,” he added.
Palmer’s assessment underlines the different dimensions that the three attackers can provide for Chelsea. While Pedro offers versatility and the ability to contribute in several areas, Rogers provides physicality and strength, with Palmer bringing technical quality and creativity.
That combination could become an important feature of Alonso’s Chelsea as the season progresses.
The 24-year-old midfielder endured an injury-disrupted period last season after suffering a groin problem, and there have been suggestions that he could be carefully managed during the early stages of the campaign.
Palmer may therefore be rested for Chelsea’s Carabao Cup second-round encounter against Luton Town. However, manager Alonso has confirmed that the forward is fully fit and available for selection.
The decision over Palmer’s involvement will likely depend on how Alonso manages his squad with Chelsea facing a busy schedule.
For now, the focus remains on building on the positive start against Fulham. Chelsea showed attacking quality and resilience to secure all three points, while the performances of Palmer, Pedro and Rogers have given supporters reason to be optimistic.
Whether the trio eventually settle on another nickname remains to be seen. For Palmer, though, one thing is already clear: ‘JP Morgan’ will need some serious improvement before he is willing to embrace it.
With all three attackers already on the scoresheet after the opening weekend, Chelsea will hope their combination can continue producing goals and decisive performances throughout the 2026/27 Premier League season.
