Tottenham Hotspur will look to end a difficult start to the Premier League season when they host Everton on Saturday, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side still searching for both their first league victory and their opening goal of the campaign.

Tottenham’s struggles in front of goal continued last weekend when they drew 0-0 away to Nottingham Forest. Spurs failed to register a shot on target, marking the first time they had failed to hit the target in a Premier League match since April 2022.

The result left De Zerbi’s team with only one point from their first three league games and positioned them near the bottom of the table. Their only victory so far came in the EFL Cup, where they defeated Charlton Athletic 5-0.

Spurs are one of just three Premier League teams yet to score this season, alongside Aston Villa and Coventry City. Historically, Tottenham have always found the net in at least one of their opening four league matches of a campaign, meaning another blank against Everton would represent an unwanted milestone.

The Toffees have scored nine goals in the league so far, with two stoppage-time strikes helping them secure points in their last two fixtures.

Their latest goal came against Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Ainsley Maitland-Niles found the net at 95 minutes and 11 seconds, rescuing a point for Everton with a spectacular finish.

Maitland-Niles joined the club from Lyon for a relatively modest fee and made an immediate impact. Before his Everton debut, he had scored in only one of his previous 109 Premier League appearances.
