A former NFF president would soon be charged in a United Kingdom court, bordering on allegations of stolen Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) funds.
In a bid to recover stolen NFF funds back to its coffers, the Advocacy for Nigeria Football Reform Initiative has instructed its lawyers, CV Brooks Solicitors, of 506 Hertford Road, Enfield, EN3 5SS, United Kingdom, to initiate criminal proceedings against a former NFF president.
One of the former NFF president’s properties in the UK is located at Regent Plaza Apartment, 6 Greville Road, London, NW6 5HU. The property was bought cash-down at the cost of £700,000 on 10th December 2015, while he was a public office holder in Nigeria.
This particular property, among others, was contrary to a statement made on oath by the same former NFF president at a Federal High Court sitting in Nigeria before a presiding judge on Thursday, 19th May 2022, under cross-examination.
There are also allegations of illicit flows of funds and questionable bank transfers running into several millions of US dollars and diverted FIFA grants.
Our lawyers, in a letter dated 19th August 2026 (withheld) to the former NFF president’s lawyers, Messrs Dorcas Funmi & Co. Solicitors, of 12 Brook Street, Erith, Kent, DA8 1JQ, United Kingdom, made an eight-point demand for documents covering the former NFF president’s eight-year tenure, within 30 days, before commencing criminal proceedings through the United Kingdom Serious Fraud Office.
So far, after the 30-day ultimatum given to the former NFF president’s lawyers, the only response received from Messrs Dorcas Funmi & Co. through a telephone call is that their client is sick and would need more time. Apparently, there are no answers to the issues raised in the 19th August letter.
For the ongoing football reforms in Nigeria to be total, there is a need to recover all NFF stolen funds back to its treasury. This is why our Advocacy resorted to cross-border actions, having been deliberately frustrated by the judicial process in Nigeria.
Nigerian football has remained a crime seen for too long. People have to go to jail for the reform process to be thorough.
