Turkish football analyst Levent Tüzemen has called on Galatasaray to urgently improve the condition of their playing surface at Rams Park following concerns that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen narrowly escaped an ankle injury during the club’s recent 2-0 victory over Stuttgart.
The incident reportedly occurred during Tuesday’s encounter, when Osimhen came close to twisting his ankle while playing on the stadium’s pitch. Although Galatasaray eventually secured a comfortable victory, the situation has raised concerns about the quality of the playing surface and the potential danger it could pose to players if the necessary improvements are not made.
Tüzemen, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the condition of the pitch, believes the current situation is unacceptable for a club of Galatasaray’s reputation. He has therefore urged the club’s management to take immediate action rather than allow the problem to continue.
According to the Turkish football pundit, the playing surface requires urgent attention from experienced specialists who understand the standards expected at the highest level of football. He suggested that Galatasaray should bring in some of the best turf experts in the world after their upcoming fixture against Amedspor to properly examine and improve the pitch.
Speaking about the situation, Tüzemen criticised the condition of the surface at Rams Park and insisted that it does not reflect the status of the Turkish giants.
“This pitch needs to be fixed. This pitch isn’t befitting of Galatasaray,” he said, as quoted by Forza Cimbom.
The pundit also expressed frustration over the reported €1.5 million spent on the pitch, questioning why the playing surface had failed to meet expectations despite the substantial investment. He argued that the club should not continue to tolerate the situation when the quality of the playing area could potentially put important players at risk.
“After the Amedspor match, bring in the world’s best turf experts, for God’s sake! Look at the disaster of the pitch that those guys made after you paid them 1.5 million euros,” Tüzemen added.
He further highlighted the incident involving Osimhen, explaining that the Nigerian forward came dangerously close to twisting his ankle during the Stuttgart match. The analyst believes such situations should be taken seriously, particularly because injuries can have a significant impact on a team’s performance and ambitions.
Tüzemen also brought up the previous injury problems involving Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, suggesting that Galatasaray should learn from past experiences and ensure that similar situations do not happen again.
“Osimhen’s ankle nearly twisted. That is why we lost Icardi before. Whoever is responsible for the pitch should be held accountable,” he stated.
His comments have placed the spotlight on the management and maintenance of Rams Park, with the pundit demanding that those responsible for the playing surface explain why it has reportedly deteriorated despite the money invested in its improvement.
For Galatasaray, keeping Osimhen fit remains an important priority as the club continues to compete across different competitions. The Nigerian striker is a key part of the team’s attacking plans, and any injury setback involving him could create difficulties for the coaching staff.
The concerns raised by Tüzemen also underline the importance of maintaining quality playing surfaces, especially for clubs competing at the highest level. A poorly maintained pitch can affect players’ movement, passing accuracy and overall performance while increasing the possibility of awkward challenges and injuries.
Although Galatasaray emerged victorious against Stuttgart, the attention has now shifted towards the condition of their home ground. Tüzemen wants the club to use the opportunity after the Amedspor fixture to bring in qualified specialists and ensure that Rams Park meets the required standards.
The pundit’s warning serves as a reminder that securing victories on the pitch is not the only responsibility of a football club, as providing players with a safe and suitable playing environment is equally important.
