Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets, closed out their 2025 WAFU Zone B U-20 Women’s Cup journey in Benin Republic on a perfect note, sealing a 1–0 victory over the hosts at the Omnisport Stadium in Adjohoun on Wednesday.
Having already clinched the title before their final game, coach Moses Aduku’s side showed no signs of slowing down. Striker Ramotalahi Kareem continued her fine form, netting the decisive goal in the 16th minute to crown an outstanding personal tournament in which she finished as top scorer with four goals.
Kareem’s strike came after she latched onto a clever through ball, shrugged off her marker, and coolly finished past the Beninese goalkeeper.
The Falconets dominated the encounter, creating several opportunities to extend their lead but couldn’t find a second goal. In the second half, Benin Republic pressed forward for an equaliser, yet Nigeria’s defence held firm, maintaining their composure to secure another clean sheet and a flawless campaign.
With the result, the Falconets topped the standings with 12 points from four games, scoring 10 goals and conceding just once. Ghana finished as runners-up with six points, while Benin failed to register a single point.
Midfielder Kafayat Mafisere was named Woman of the Match for her tireless work in midfield. Ghana’s Sarah Nyarko picked up the Player of the Tournament award after scoring three goals and providing an assist.
Nigeria’s road to victory was nothing short of dominant – recording comprehensive wins over Ghana and Benin in earlier rounds. The Falconets beat Ghana 3–0, brushed aside Benin 3–0, and defeated Ghana again 3–0 in their penultimate match, sealing the title with a game to spare.
The triumph underscores Nigeria’s continued dominance in women’s football across the region and serves as a statement of intent ahead of future international tournaments.
