Bayern Munich loanee Edna Imade has officially closed the door on representing Nigeria or Morocco at senior level after making her competitive debut for Spain in the UEFA Women’s Nations League final.
The 25-year-old forward featured in the first leg of Spain’s clash with Germany on Friday, coming on as an 85th-minute substitute for Esther González. Her appearance in the match, an official UEFA competition, permanently cap-ties her to the Spanish national team under FIFA eligibility rules.
Imade, who was born in Morocco to a Nigerian mother, had long been eligible to play for both the Super Falcons and the Atlas Lionesses. The Nigeria Football Federation had engaged in efforts to bring her into the national setup, with the player previously expressing willingness to consider representing Nigeria.
However, Spain’s interest altered the trajectory of her international future. Coach Sonia Bermúdez handed her a first-ever call-up for the two-legged Nations League final, a move that ultimately confirmed her commitment to La Roja.
By making her competitive debut in a senior international fixture, Imade can no longer switch allegiance, ending any possibility of future appearances for either Nigeria or Morocco.
The forward, currently on loan at Bayern Munich and widely regarded as one of Europe’s emerging attacking talents, now begins a new chapter with the reigning world champions as she looks to establish herself within one of the strongest women’s national teams in global football.
