Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has arrived in Spain ahead of the completion of his proposed transfer to Atlético Madrid.
The two clubs have already reached an agreement for the 28-year-old Nigerian international, paving the way for Lookman to travel to Madrid to finalise the move. With negotiations concluded at club level, only formalities remain before the transfer is officially confirmed.
Atletico Madrid confirmed Lookman’s arrival in the Spanish capital on Monday, indicating that the deal is now at its final stage. In a brief statement, the LaLiga side revealed that all that is left is the player’s medical examination and the signing of his contract.
“The clubs have agreed to the transfer of 28-year-old Nigerian international Ademola Lookman, who is already in Madrid,” the statement said. “The agreement is pending a medical examination and the signing of his contract.”
Lookman is expected to cost Atletico Madrid in the region of 40 million euros, a fee that reflects both his experience and his proven quality at the top level in Italy and on the international stage. The winger has been a key figure for Atalanta in recent seasons, playing an important role in their domestic and European campaigns.
Although his numbers this season have been relatively modest, with three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions, Atletico believe Lookman’s pace, directness and versatility across the front line will add a new dimension to their attack.
Once the medicals are completed and contractual details finalised, Lookman is expected to be unveiled as an Atletico Madrid player, marking a new chapter in his career and another high-profile move for the Super Eagles star.
